OSCAR 2018

Year 2018 has seen the distribution of 90th academy awards. The ceremony was presented by Academy of motion and pictures and has honored best pictures of 2017. The ceremony took place on March 4, 2018 in Dolby Theater , Hollywood. Academy presented awards in 24 categories.

The award ceremony was hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel and this was his second consecutive year hosting the award ceremony. Since Billy Crystal, who has hosted the award ceremony in 1997 and 1998, Jimmy has become the first person to host the ceremony back to back.

Best Movies

Movie “The Shape of water” won the four awards, followed by “Dunkirk” collected three awards. Movies which won two awards are Blade runner 2049, Coco, Darkest Hour, Missouri and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing.

Best Director, Actor, Actress

Best picture award and best director award both are won by “The shape of Water” along with the award for best director to Guillermo del Toro and J. Miles Dale. Best Actor award was presented to Garry Oldman who played as Wiston Churchill in the movie The Darkest Hour. Best actress award was given to Allison Janney for movie I, Tonya, in which she played the role of LaVona Golden.

Best Screen Play

Award for best original screen play was given to “Get out” which is written by Jordan Peele. Other nominees in category were The Big Sick, Lady bird, The shape of water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing. Award for best adapted screen play was won by “Call me by your name” which is written by James Ivory and is based on the novel by Andre Aciman. Other nominees in this category were The disaster Artist, Logan, Molly’s game and Mudbound.

Best Animation

Award for Best animated film was given to “Coco” directed by Lee Unkrich and Daria K. Anderson. Other nominees are The Boss baby, The Bread winner, Ferdinand and Loving Vincent. For foreign language film the award was given to “The Fantastic Woman (Chile)” in Spanish.

Best Documentary

Best documentary feature was awarded to “Icarus” directed by Bryan Fogel and Dan Cogan. Other nominees were Abacus, Faces Places, Last Men in Aleppo and strong Island. Best Documentary on short subject was given to “Heaven Is a Traffic Jam on the 405” directed by Frank Stiefel.

Best Short Film

Award for Best live action short film was given to “The silent child” directed by Chris Overton and Rachel Shenton. Dekalb Elementary, The eleven O’clock, My nephew Emmett and Watuwote/All of these were nominees in the category.

Best Sound and Song

Best original song award was given to “Remember me” from “Coco” , the music and lyrics are given by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Award for best sound editing and best sound mixing was awarded to “Dunkirk”.


“The shape of water” was again the award in Best production design. Best cinematography award has been given to “Blade runner 2049”. Best makeup and hair styling award was given to “Darkest Hour” whereas best custom design was given to “Phantom Thread”. Best film editing has again be given to “Dunkirk” and best visual effect was given to “Blade runner 2049”.
