Duties of a Bank Specialist Officer

A Bank Specialist Officer is appointed for specialized role in various departments. They are being allotted the Branches of their services based on the Specialization and their educational background.

Some of the Specialist Officer Positions in Banks are as follows:

  1. Information Technology Officer
  2. Agriculture Field Office
  3. Marketing Officer
  4. Rajbhasha Adhikari
  5. Law Officer
  6. Technical Officer
  7. HR/Personnel Officer

The Generalist/Specialist officers are being selected by the banks on various scales. These scales can be described as follows:

JMG Scale – I (Junior Management Scale I (Grade – B):

For these posts, Generally No Experience is required

MMG Scale – II (Middle Management Scale II (Grade – A)):

Generally, experience of two Years is required for jobs in this scale.

MMG Scale – III (Middle Management Scale III (Grade – A):

Generally, experience of five or more Years is required for jobs in this scale,

SMG Scale-IV (Senior Management Scale IV – Grade – A):

These are Chief Managers and generally and an experience of around 10 years is required for jobs in this scale.

A brief explanation of Specialist Officers can be described as follows:

IT Officer

These days, almost every bank is in need of IT Officers. These IT Officers are responsible to take care of banks’ software systems. They are also responsible to look into maintenance of servers, database and other networking aspects. Generally, candidates with B.E./B.Tech or M.Sc.(or Equivalent) Degree in Computer Science or any other stream having Computer Science as a subject are eligible to apply for IT posts.

Law Officer

The Law Officers are needed to handle all Legal or Judicial matters of the bank. The Candidates having a Bachelor Degree (LLB) and Post Graduate Degree in Law (LLM) are eligible to be recruited by the Banks. However, CAIIB/MBA may be preferred over others.

Agriculture Officer

An Agricultural officer is responsible for the promotion of loans in rural areas like general and agricultural purposes under the various governmental and financial institutions schemes. These officer needs to have good relationships with farmers to do lead generation, client acquisition, site visit before the loan sanctioning. These officers are also responsible to follow-up after the loan is disbursed for timely Loan recovery. Thus, we can conclude from their functioning that these Agricultural Officers are mainly related to the rural works. The Candidates possessing a Degree in Agriculture/ Horticulture/Animal Husbandry/ Veterinary Science/ Dairy Science/ Agri. Engineering/Fishery Science/ Pisciculture/ Agri Marketing & Cooperation from recognized university are generally needed for the recruitment at these Posts.

Marketing Officer

A marketing officer is responsible for marketing and branding of a bank and its activities either at online or in offline media. They are required to develop marketing campaigns, programs, public relations activities, advertisements, press releases, and other special events which are to be approved by senior management of the concerned bank. They are required to find new ways to promote their banks and require searching for new services and Products of the Banks. Generally MBA Graduates from Marketing Background are preferred for these Posts.

HR Officer

These are responsible to handle human resource department functions such as compensation, industrial relations, performance management, training and development, etc. Banks look for relevant educational background in the Candidates, who belong to the related Field in HR such as MBA/PGDM in HR management.

Rajbhasha Adhikari

The Rajbhasha Adhikari are responsible for translation related works like translating official documents in English to Rajbhasha(Hindi) and other such activities. The Candidates having the graduation or post graduation in Hindi/Sanskrit with English as a subject in the curriculum are the main preference of the Banks for these Posts.

These are the most commonly advertised job Profiles for the Specialist Officers in Banks. However, there are many other roles and Profiles for specialist officers in banks apart from the posts mentioned above. Thus, the Candidates are advised to go through the notification in details to select their choice and their eligibility as these are the Profiles which can’t be filled by everyone and specialization is needed for the same.
