German universities offering undergraduate English-language programs

There are currently a very limited number of undergraduate English-language programs at top universities in Germany, but at the graduate level there are several course offerings. Most of these programs are scarce and take students in a very limited number. Let us say, Ingolstadt University takes only about 25 students annually for their International course in automotive engineering. The competition too is very high with several meritorious students applying every year. Please keep the following in mind – if you really want to study at a leading university, you should be a little bit flexible on your choice of program.

Below is a short list of universities available for study in English in Germany. Most of these universities were ranked in the QS World University Rankings list. This means almost all of them are of high repute. Also remember, this is not a comprehensive list. New courses are being developed continuously. So, like previously mentioned in our article on – Study in Germany in English, visit the official DAAD website for all the recognized universities in Germany.

• Universität Freiburg

As well as offering a range of English language master’s programs, Universität Freiburg is also one of few German universities to offer a bachelor level degree programs taught in English. They are Bachelor of Arts (BA) and / or Bachelor of Science degrees. This allows international students to stuy free in English at all levels. Universität Freiburg is ranked 121 in the QS World University Rankings.

• Georg-August-Universität Göttingen

Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is ranked 146 in the world university rankings. It also offers BSc programs in Molecular Ecosystem Sciences taught in English. Basic knowledge of German is required for admission. For more information on international graduate programs, please visit the official website of the university.

• Universitat Leipzig

You can study International courses taught in English here at Universitat Leipzig, which is currently ranked 289 in the world university rankings. For more information on international graduate programs, please visit the official website of the university.
• Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg

The Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg is ranked 341 in the world, university rankings. For more information on international graduate programs, please visit the official website of the university.

• Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München – graduate ‘English-taught courses’ (ETC)

• Technische Universität München (TUM) – international graduate programs in English

• Universität Freiburg – English-language master’s programs

• Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) – English-language graduate programs

• Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin – international master’s programs in English

• Georg-August-Universität Göttingen – international graduate programs in English

• RWTH Aachen University – international master’s programs in English, very famous among Indian students.

• Freie Universität Berlin – international master’s programs in English, another famous university among Indian students.

• Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn – international graduate programs in English

• Universität Hamburg – bilingual and English-language master’s programs

• ESCP Europe – international business and management master’s programs in English (based across ESCP campuses in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris and Turin)

• HS Rhein Waal – a new university founded in 2009 offers Masters Courses in Mechanical engineering and Bionics.
