Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is the fellowship Program, which is awarded in Basic Sciences. This Fellowship Program is the initiative by the Department of Science and Technology, Indian Government. This scheme grant, fellowship for the students up to Pre- Ph. D. level!
Purpose of the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The Purpose of the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is to motivate the candidates to pursue courses in Basic Sciences and motivate them to pursue research career ahead in the career. This Program is highly focused to identify the students, who have great apt for research and possess enough talent to pursue this research career. The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is aimed towards bringing in more talent towards the research and development of the country by highly motivating them to do the best for the growth of science.
Notification of the Fellowship
The notifications of the concerned fellowship can be found in newspapers, on ‘Technology Day’, which is celebrated on 11th May each year and on the 2nd Sunday of July month each year. As seen in the last year, the last date for receiving the application form was 28th August, 2014 and for online application, it was 8th Sep, 2014. The Examination Date for the KVPY was 2nd Nov, 2014. Thus, on the platform of 2014, the candidates can hope for the same, this year too.
Eligibility of the Candidates for Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The candidates pursuing 11th class to 1st year of all the kinds of undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences are eligible to the fellowship of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. The Undergraduate Program among B. Maths, B. Stat, B.S., B. Sc., M. Sc., M.S. in PCM and Biology are must for the eligibility of the fellowship.
Stream SA: The candidates studying in 11th Class in Science stream, and having secured a minimum of 80% marks in Mathematics and Science aggregate, in the board examination of 10th class as classified in Stream SA.
Stream SX: The candidates studying in class 12 and are hoping to join undergraduate degree in the next year, are eligible to be in Stream SX. The only condition is the 80% marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics, and Science and a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science. Even the students, studying in the 2nd year of study in Cambridge International Examination Board, can apply for the same with the same conditions as mentioned above.
Stream SB: The candidates studying in 1st year of the undergraduate degree are eligible to apply for the same. The candidates, however, must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the 12th Class Board Examination and in the 1st year final examination of the degree Program must have secured 60% marks before taking up the fellowship, in case the candidate is awarded the same.
However, one must remember that for the candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PWD, are relaxed in terms of percentage and are given a relaxation of 10% in each requirement.
Process of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
The candidates apply for the fellowship. A special committee set up at IISc is being set up in order to sort out those applications. The eligible applicants from those applications are called to appear in the aptitude test, which is conducted all throughout the country. Shortlisted Candidates are called for the interview, which is, in fact, the last stage of the whole process. The final result is displayed based on securing the marks in the written examination and interview in combination. 75% of the marks for the written Examination, while 25% of the interview marks constitutes the total marks during the process.
Rewards of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
As a reward, the candidates are eligible to get the fellowship from the beginning of the undergraduate Programs. The KVPY provides the candidates, Rs. 5000 each month as the scholarship, which is provided to the candidates from 1st year to 3rd year of the Program. Even, the annual contingency of Rs. 20000 is provided to the candidates. The candidates, who continue their study of Bachelor course to masters Course in the form of M. Sc., are entitled to Rs. 7000 instead of Rs. 5000 and even they are granted an annual Contingency of Rs. 28000 each year.
