Overview of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination

National Defence Academy Examinations are being conducted by the UPSC and is one of the prime Jobs and Prestigious Jobs for the Fresh Blood, who want to serve their nations. The Examination which is being conducted by the UPSC is being conducted twice a year. The exam is being conducted for the entrance of the candidates in the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy and for admission to the Indian Naval Academy.

Dates of the Examination

The National Defence Academy Examinations are being conducted by the UPSC twice a year and is being conducted in the month of April- May and September each year. For the examinations in 2015, the notifications will be issued in the last week of December and the last date for the filling up of the Application form will be the last week of January 2015. The exam will be conducted in the month of April and at this moment of time is being scheduled for 8th April, 2015.

Eligibility Criteria of the candidates to appear in the Examination

The Eligibility for the Examination entirely depends on the wing, the candidates apply for. The Candidates applying for the Army wing of the National Defence Academy must have completed 12th Class or equivalent from a recognized education board or university in any stream. While the Candidates interested in the Air Force and Naval Wings of the National Defence Academy Must have completed 12th Class or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized education board or university in any stream. Even the candidates are required to be unmarried.

Selection of the Candidates in the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination

The Selection of the candidates is based on performance in a written examination, which is then followed by the interview procedure by the Services Selection Board. The Written marks for this National Defence Academy Examinations is 900, while the interview covers another 900 marks for the same. Two stage selection procedures based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test is being carried at Selection Centers or Air Force Selection Boards. All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers or Air Force Selection Boards. The candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests. Those candidates who qualify stage 2 will be required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth, Original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification.

Syllabus of the Examination

The written test for the National Defence Academy Examinations includes two subjects in the form of Mathematics and General Ability Test.
The Mathematics portion covers the total marks of 300. The Paper 1, Mathematics involves the topics like Algebra which includes Concept of a set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams. De Morgan laws, Cartesian product, relation, equivalence relation. Questions on Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry of two and three dimensions, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics and Probability are also asked in the mathematics Portion. The Duration for this section is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
The General Ability Test includes the several topics like English, General Knowledge, Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography and Current Events. The weightage of this section is 600 marks. The Duration for this section is 2 hours and 30 minutes

Vacancies in the Examination

The Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and is focused on the admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA meant for the 135th Course and for the 97th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). The Training commences from 02nd January 2016. The number of seats for the same is mentioned below:
• National Defence Academy: 320 posts
• Army: 208 posts Navy: 42 posts
• Air Force: 70 posts
• Naval Academy [10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme): 55 posts
• Thus in Total the number of seats is 375 Posts

Examination fees and other Details

When we move our focus towards the Examination fees and other Details, we can say that the application fees to appear in the National Defence Academy Examinations are a nominal Rs. 100 for general Candidates. The candidates like Female SC/ST/PH candidates/ Sons of JCOs/NCOs/ORs and some more as according to the notifications are exempted from payment of fee. This has mainly being done to motivate the Candidates to appear in the Examination and join the Defence Services.
